UMK

UMK is the fourth largest producer of manganese in the world.

This mine is situated in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality in the Northern Cape. It is strategically located with easy access to rail infrastructure and has a state of the art load out station to enable rapid train loading. UMK sells its product to both local and international markets.

The management of 4Arrows has been involved with UMK since its inception approximately 10 years ago. The mining requirement at UMK started with a mere 80 000 tons per month with the current loading, hauling and on-mine logistics operation, moving in excess of 3.5 million tons of waste and ROM on a monthly basis.

KMR

KMR is in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality in the Northern Cape, approximately one kilometer from the town of Hotazel. The company started operations in May 2012, when 100 000 tons of bulk sampling material was extracted in terms of the prospecting right. Full scale mining production followed in June 2013, after obtaining a Mining Right.

The mining requirement at KMR started with a mere 50 000 tons per month with the current loading, hauling and processing operation, moving in excess of 2.5 million tons of waste and ROM on a monthly basis. The operations are performed at two different pits with the ore processing operation performed centrally close to the railway loading facility.

The life expectancy is 10 to 15 years for the open pit mining operations after which underground mining will commence for an estimated 30 years.

PMG: Paling

Paling is strategically located on the western Manganese belt with the master plan making provision for a rail load out station, processing facilities which encompass crushing screening, magnetic separation and most probably gravity separation. It is expected that mining operations will commence in mid-2020 with a current proven resource of approximately 10 million tons of ore and a prospective volume of approximately 20 million tons. Exploration will continue on an ongoing basis to update the six-month rolling mine plan as the mining progresses.

The project started as a “mining” ready project but turned out to be a typical greenfield project that required exploration, mine planning and the planning of all mine related infrastructure.

Situated on the western Manganese belt, an area well known for a very intricate geology with folding and faults, the work included a geological surface map, geophysical surveys (Gravity survey and a Magneto telluric), lidar surveys, trenching and geological drilling, data capturing and processing, modelling of the ore body, resource estimation and mine planning.
